A personal, handwritten letter from Taylor Swift to late One Direction star Liam Payne is set to go under the hammer this December, offering fans a rare glimpse into the pop superstar’s warm words for her friend and fellow musician.
Dated December 1, 2017, Swift’s note expressed her support for Payne’s solo career, writing that she was “always cheering” him on. The letter will be auctioned on December 2 by Omega Auctions, with an estimated value of £5,000 to £10,000 (approximately $6,500–$13,150).
The handwritten message was sent ahead of their performances at that year’s Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball at London’s O2 Arena, where both Swift and Payne took the stage on December 10, 2017. In the note, Swift wrote:
“Liam, Long time no see! I’m so excited for you, you’re crushing it out there. I’m obsessed with ‘Bedroom Floor.’ It’s so cool to see you from afar, I’m always cheering you on. Good luck tonight!”

The letter was signed with Swift’s signature and came in a matching envelope addressed to “Liam,” decorated with stars and sealed with a personalized wax seal featuring the initial “T.”
At the time, Payne had just released his single “Bedroom Floor,” following his debut solo hit “Strip That Down” after One Direction’s indefinite hiatus in 2016. According to the auction description, Payne gifted the letter to a “close associate” shortly after receiving it from Swift.

The auction comes in the wake of Payne’s tragic passing on October 16, 2024, after a fatal fall from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office reported that the singer suffered multiple traumas leading to internal and external bleeding.
Fans now have a rare opportunity to own a piece of pop history.
