Brazilian digital creator and influencer Yasmim Ângela Feitosa de Souza has tragically died at the age of 26.
According to Brazilian news outlet g1, Yasmim passed away on November 12 at her home in Petrolina, Brazil, just two days after celebrating her birthday with friends.
Her mother told g1 that the young influencer had fallen ill after an evening of drinking with two friends on November 10.
“They drank on Monday night, and then yesterday my daughter’s boyfriend woke up feeling unwell,” her mother said in Portuguese.
“My daughter, however, was happy all day, playing with everyone. She went to the market with me, we did our grocery shopping, we had lunch out. And it was at night that she started feeling unwell. And then I couldn’t save my daughter.”
Local authorities and medical staff at the University Hospital of Univasf confirmed that they received a patient on November 12 with suspected menthol poisoning, part of a concerning rise in similar cases in the region.
De Souza’s mother said that Yasmim and her friends had consumed roughly one and a half liters of whisky during the celebration. The remaining portion of the bottle has been seized for analysis as investigators work to determine whether the alcohol was tainted.
Yasmim, who had more than 23,000 followers on Instagram, was known for sharing lifestyle content and lighthearted glimpses into her daily life, often featuring her boyfriend. Her final post, shared on November 5, featured a playful exchange between the couple.
She is set to be laid to rest on Thursday, November 13, at a cemetery near her family’s home in Petrolina, according to g1.
