Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was released from a Miami jail on Thursday, November 13, after posting $25,000 bail in connection with a second-degree attempted murder charge.
The 37-year-old athlete was seen leaving the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, embracing his attorney Mark Eiglarsh before collecting his belongings. The pair stopped briefly at a nearby food truck before departing in Eiglarsh’s vehicle.
Brown, who has pleaded not guilty, was ordered by Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer to wear a GPS ankle monitor as he awaits trial. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Prosecutors had argued for pretrial detention, claiming that Brown’s wealth and notoriety as a former professional athlete made him a potential flight risk. Eiglarsh countered that his client — who no longer holds a passport — will remain at his home in Broward County, Florida, throughout the proceedings.
According to court documents, the charges stem from an incident following a celebrity boxing match in Miami on May 16, when Brown allegedly took a handgun from a security guard and fired two shots at a man identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, with one bullet reportedly grazing the man’s neck.
Brown’s attorney has disputed parts of the affidavit, saying his client used his own legally registered firearm and that the shots were not directed at anyone.
Once one of the NFL’s most dominant players, Brown spent 12 seasons in the league, primarily with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and briefly with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.
Over his career, he recorded 928 receptions, 12,000 receiving yards, and 88 total touchdowns, including returns and one passing score.
