Valerie Bertinelli is switching things up. The actress and celebrity chef, 65, surprised fans when she debuted a glamorous new blonde hairstyle on Instagram.
In the selfie, Bertinelli’s hair appeared in soft waves with a bright golden tone and a center part, while darker roots peeked through for a natural effect. She playfully captioned the photo, “New hair, who dis?”
But the transformation wasn’t permanent. Bertinelli later revealed that the look was actually a wig, styled by celebrity hair expert Chris Appleton — the same stylist known for working with Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez.
The “Valerie’s Home Cooking” star has been open about her relationship with aging and gray hair. Last year, she addressed criticism about her appearance in a candid Instagram video, explaining why she sometimes uses filters and has embraced her natural roots.
“Sometimes I use filters, sometimes I don’t,” she said at the time. “This is me with no makeup and no filter.” She also joked about fans who accused her of wearing wigs, pulling her hair forward to show her real gray strands. “If I’m wearing a wig, can someone get me one without gray roots? I’m tired of getting my roots done every two weeks,” she quipped.
Recently, Bertinelli has also been opening up about embracing aging and confidence. Earlier this month, she shared behind-the-scenes photos from the cover shoot of her upcoming memoir, Getting Naked. In the pictures, she poses wearing only a white button-down shirt and heels — while the actual cover features her completely nude.

In her caption, she explained that boldly showing her authentic self — physically and emotionally — is part of her journey.
“When I feel that fear, I know it’s an opportunity to learn something,” she wrote. “The older I get, the better I get at understanding my feelings. And the less scary it becomes.”
She added that she hopes her book helps others work through tough experiences, just as she continues to do herself.
“Every experience is an opportunity to learn,” she wrote. “And I welcome them all.”
