Primary Wave is adding yet another music legend to its powerhouse roster — and this time, it’s the one and only Patti LaBelle.
The global music publishing and talent management company has secured a new royalty agreement with the “Godmother of Soul,” extending its wave of high-profile acquisitions that have already included rights tied to The Notorious B.I.G., The Cars, and Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green earlier this year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal — finalized on Wednesday, October 29 — covers royalty income from LaBelle’s entire catalog. This includes her 18 studio albums, three live records, and decades of classic hits. Financial details remain private.
LaBelle’s career spans more than sixty years and includes unforgettable moments both as a solo superstar and as the frontwoman of the vocal trio LaBelle. Her signature songs — from “If Only You Knew” and “On My Own” to “New Attitude” and the legendary “Lady Marmalade” — continue to influence generations of artists.
“Lady Marmalade,” which first went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974, became a global sensation again in 2001 when Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya, and Lil’ Kim reimagined it for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack. In 2020, the Library of Congress officially cemented LaBelle’s original version in the National Recording Registry for its cultural significance.
The Philadelphia-born star has sold over 50 million records worldwide, earned two Grammy Awards, and holds seven gold and one platinum album. Her 1983 album Winner in You featured the No. 1 duet “On My Own” with Michael McDonald, a defining moment in ’80s ballad history.
Primary Wave executive Steven Greener celebrated the new partnership with high praise.
