Prince William and Kate Middleton have moved their family into what is being described as their “forever home” in Windsor. According to The Telegraph, the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 43, recently relocated to Forest Lodge during the children’s school half-term break, marking a new chapter for the family of five.
The couple previously moved from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor three years ago to test whether life outside central London suited their growing children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. The quieter surroundings and proximity to Lambrook School allowed the family to maintain privacy while balancing royal duties.
“We were in London but moved there for more green space,” Princess Kate shared earlier this year. “It’s close enough to London, not too far away.”

Their latest move to Forest Lodge places them even closer to Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, who have long played an active role in their grandchildren’s lives. The new residence, a historic eight-bedroom Georgian home, also offers more space and a calmer environment — something the family has sought following a challenging period.
The Wales family faced major personal upheavals in recent years, including the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, King Charles’ accession to the throne, and both the King and Princess Kate being diagnosed with cancer in 2024. Kate has since announced she is in remission, while the King continues treatment.
Despite the more spacious home, the couple will continue their long-standing preference of not having live-in staff. Their nanny and household team will remain nearby on separate accommodations within the estate.
The move has, however, come with increased security. A 2.3-mile boundary has been established around the home, limiting access to areas of Windsor Great Park that were once open to local residents. Some locals expressed disappointment, but others acknowledged the necessity.
“One understands the need to keep the family safe,” a resident told local media. “Their happiness and security come first.”
