Meek Mill says he was briefly detained by New York City police in the early hours of Saturday, describing the encounter as humiliating and frightening.
The rapper, 37, took to social media to recount the incident, claiming officers pulled him out of a car and handcuffed him outside a nightclub in Manhattan.
“They just pulled me out the car and cuffed me in front of the whole club — embarrassed the shit out of me in NYC!” Meek wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He added that officers allegedly pointed guns at him during the confrontation.
“[T]hey had guns in my face for no reason smh I thought it was a prank… They tryna get me,” he said.

According to the NYPD, officers stopped three men around 4 a.m. after receiving a report of someone possibly carrying a firearm in a vehicle near the club. Police say no weapon was found, and all three individuals — including Meek — were released without charges.

The moment comes as Meek continues to balance his music career with his high-profile activism in criminal justice reform. The Philadelphia native has long been vocal about the flaws he sees in the probation system, particularly after his own experiences.
In 2017, he was sentenced to two to four years in state prison for a probation violation — a ruling that sparked widespread criticism and drew support from celebrities and public figures. He was released after five months, and went on to co-found the REFORM Alliance with Jay-Z, Michael Rubin, Robert Kraft and others, aiming to change probation and parole laws across the U.S.

Speaking at a bill signing ceremony in Pennsylvania last year, Meek reflected on his journey.
“We tried to be better but they labeled us as felons, sent us back to jail,” he said. “I had to fight against that to gain my respect and be who I am today, and I’m proud of that.”
As of now, Meek has not announced whether he plans to take legal action regarding the NYC encounter. The NYPD has not issued any further statement.
