The estranged husband of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood star Masika Kalysha, Jamar Champ, has died following a car crash in Houston early Tuesday morning. He was 38.
According to a statement from the Houston Police Department, the crash happened shortly after midnight on October 28 on the Katy Freeway. Police say a silver BMW was driving the wrong way when it collided head-on with a silver Tesla Cybertruck. The BMW caught fire on impact. The Cybertruck then struck a blue 18-wheeler truck.
Champ, who was driving the Cybertruck, was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died. The driver of the BMW was also killed. Their identity has not yet been released. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
Investigators say an autopsy will help determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
Champ played college football at North Dakota State University in 2005.

After news of his death began spreading, Masika Kalysha posted an emotional message on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“I didn’t know why I couldn’t sleep. I just received the worst news of my life. Pray for me and my kids, please.”

In a video on Instagram, she asked the public and media to avoid sharing details until she has spoken to her children:
“I don’t want my kids to find out at school before I can tell them.”

Kalysha and Champ married in 2021 and share a three-year-old daughter, Amari. The two had been separated for more than a year, with Masika previously stating they were in mediation.
She ended her message by asking for privacy:
“I am in shambles. Please respect my family and my children at this time.”
