Kim Kardashian Credits Caitlyn Jenner for Keeping the Kardashian Empire on TV

Kim Kardashian is giving Caitlyn Jenner her flowers — acknowledging her stepdad’s role in keeping the famous Kardashian-Jenner family in the public eye.

During the taping of The Graham Norton Show set to air on Friday, Oct. 24, the 45-year-old reality star and SKIMS founder opened up about her family’s early days on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and how Caitlyn’s 2015 transition helped shape their television legacy.

The hit E! series, which first premiered in 2007, catapulted the Kardashians into global fame and paved the way for multiple business ventures. After 20 seasons, the show ended in 2021 and later evolved into Hulu’s The Kardashians, which premiered the following year.

Reflecting on the show’s long run, Kim told host Graham Norton, “We shot the pilot and had no idea what it would turn into, but 20 years on it is still going.”

She admitted that sustaining a reality show for two decades was no easy task — but one major life event kept audiences engaged. “The shows write themselves,” Kim said. “Once, when we wondered what might happen next, my stepdad turned into a woman and there were two more seasons right there!”

Caitlyn Jenner, now 75, publicly came out as transgender in 2015, appearing on the cover of Vanity Fair with the headline “Call Me Caitlyn.” She followed the announcement with a revealing interview with Diane Sawyer and went on to star in her own reality series, I Am Cait, which chronicled her journey.

Speaking about her transition at the time, Caitlyn said, “If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life.’”

In a 2020 interview with PEOPLE, Caitlyn recalled receiving her first driver’s license as Caitlyn Marie Jenner, describing it as “so emotional.”

Kim has been one of Caitlyn’s most vocal supporters since the beginning. While attending the CFDA Fashion Awards in June 2015, she told Extra, “This is Caitlyn’s moment and it’s her time to express herself and just be herself. She just wants to help people that don’t feel comfortable in their own skin, just to be confident in who they are.”

Now, years later, Caitlyn is reuniting with the family on screen. She made a surprise appearance in a teaser for the seventh season of The Kardashians, which premiered on Oct. 23 — marking her first time appearing on the Hulu series.

Aside from her reality TV legacy, Kim is also venturing further into acting. While on The Graham Norton Show, she discussed her upcoming Hulu legal drama All’s Fair, in which she stars as a divorce lawyer alongside Naomi Watts, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash-Betts, Sarah Paulson, and Teyana Taylor.

“Working with a cast like this, I wanted to make sure I was completely prepared,” Kim said. “What I could control was absolutely knowing my lines, being on time, and being super professional. These women are the greatest at what they do, and I just watched and learned every day. Working with them was like summer camp.”

All’s Fair premieres on Hulu on Nov. 4, and Kim hinted that it’s just the beginning of her acting journey. “I have a few projects coming up — I film my first movie in January, and we are hoping for a season two of All’s Fair. I always want to be growing, curious and evolving, and I want to see wherever that takes me,” she added.
