Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Lose Director of Communications After Four Months

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lost their director of communications just four months after she took on the role. PEOPLE magazine confirmed that Emily Robinson, who joined Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s team in late May, has resigned from her position.

Before joining the royal couple’s team, Robinson worked at Netflix as a Senior Director of Publicity. Her exit marks yet another communication shake-up for the couple, who have seen several senior staff members leave in recent years.

According to reports by the Daily Mail on Friday, October 24, Robinson decided to step down a few weeks ago. “It was her decision. She left a few weeks ago. She’s not a quitter, so things must have been pretty horrible for her to go,” a friend of the Los Angeles-based executive told the outlet.

Robinson has not yet updated her LinkedIn profile to reflect her time working for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

A spokesperson for the couple said, “Ms. Robinson oversaw project-based work for a very successful season of With Love, Meghan, and additional support for the production company.” The spokesperson added, “She did an excellent job and completed these projects with great success.”

Since relocating from the United Kingdom to California in 2020, the couple has experienced several staffing changes. Earlier this year, Los Angeles-based deputy press secretary Kyle Boulia and U.K. press officer Charlie Gipson also left their positions after a year. Their global press secretary and head of communications, Ashley Hansen, stepped down last year to start her own firm.

Currently, Liam Maguire serves as the director of communications in Europe, while Meredith Maines remains the couple’s chief communications officer. Former publicists James Holt and Miranda Bardot have since transitioned into non-public relations roles.

Robinson’s departure comes just weeks after Meghan faced online criticism during Paris Fashion Week. She shared a short Instagram video showing her feet resting in a car while driving through the city. Some critics accused her of being insensitive, alleging the video was filmed near the Pont d’Alma tunnel — the site of Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997.

A source close to the Duke of Sussex dismissed the claims, saying, “Harry was left hurt and upset. Diana’s death was used as a stick to beat his wife with. [Meghan] did not even pass close to the tunnel. The whole thing is a joke, but not a very funny one for Harry.”

Another insider told PEOPLE that Harry continues to defend his wife and children against what he perceives as unfair or biased media coverage. “He was left feeling hurt, but the depressing thing is he wasn’t even that surprised. He was more despondent than shocked,” the source said.

Meghan, who returned to Instagram at the beginning of 2025, has since used her page to share moments from family life with their children — Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — and to promote her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
