Prince William has added some star power to his global environmental mission by welcoming Brazilian supermodel and philanthropist Gisele Bündchen to the Earthshot Prize Council. The award-winning initiative celebrates groundbreaking ideas that help tackle the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Bündchen, known for her decades-long modeling career and strong environmental advocacy, becomes the first Brazilian member of the council. She joins a prestigious lineup that includes Sir David Attenborough, Cate Blanchett, Chef José Andrés, and World Trade Organization Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
This year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony will take place in Rio de Janeiro on November 5, marking a special homecoming for Bündchen. Prince William, 43, is expected to attend several events in Rio before heading to the UN Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil, the following day.
In a statement, Bündchen said she was “honored” to join the Prince’s initiative, adding that protecting nature has always been close to her heart.
“Every action matters, big or small, and together we can nurture change to protect the planet we call home,” she said. “The Earthshot Prize shines a light on solutions that inspire hope and transformation, and I’m proud to represent Brazil in sharing these stories with the world.”
The supermodel has a long track record of supporting environmental causes. She co-founded the Clean Water Project in southern Brazil and launched the Luz Foundation, which funds projects that empower women and children while promoting education, health, and environmental protection. She has also worked on wildlife conservation, reforestation, and regenerative agriculture initiatives.
Jason Knauf, CEO of The Earthshot Prize, praised Bündchen’s appointment, calling her “a global leader in sustainability and environmental progress.”
“Her passion and commitment to the environmental movement in Brazil and beyond, and her dedication to amplifying solutions, will be invaluable to our mission,” Knauf said.
The Earthshot Prize, launched by Prince William in 2020, awards winners across five key categories — including climate action, waste reduction, and nature restoration — to accelerate solutions for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
