Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is facing three misdemeanor charges following a violent confrontation with a truck driver in Indianapolis that left him hospitalized with multiple stab wounds.
According to court documents, prosecutors charged Sanchez with battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle after the Saturday morning incident outside a downtown hotel.
Authorities say the altercation began when Sanchez allegedly approached a truck driver who was unloading fryer oil at a hotel loading dock. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Sanchez opening the driver’s side door of the truck and speaking with the driver for several minutes before following him toward hotel security.
Moments later, the two men are seen arguing near the truck before the confrontation turned physical. Sanchez allegedly grabbed the driver, pushed him against a wall, and shoved him to the ground before attempting to flee the scene.
According to police reports, the truck driver told investigators that Sanchez appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. The driver said the dispute began after Sanchez claimed he was not allowed to use the loading dock on the hotel manager’s orders. The driver alleged that Sanchez tried to climb into the truck twice, prompting him to pepper-spray the former athlete.
When Sanchez continued to advance, the driver reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him several times in self-defense. Sanchez was later rushed to the hospital with injuries to his upper torso, where he remains under medical care.
Prosecutors have since issued a no-contact order, barring Sanchez from approaching the truck driver or possessing any firearms or dangerous weapons while the case is ongoing.
Sanchez, best known for his years as the New York Jets quarterback, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident.
