Former One Direction stars Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson are set to reunite for a new Netflix documentary.
The two singers have signed a multimillion-shilling deal with the streaming giant and have already started filming in the United States. The project, expected to be released next year, will feature the pair on a road trip across the country, reflecting on their journey in One Direction and sharing memories of their late bandmate, Liam Payne.
“This will be a huge show for Netflix and is guaranteed to excite One Direction’s global fan base,” a source close to the project said. “It will also provide a chance for some deep discussions about the group’s incredible journey since they were formed on The X Factor 15 years ago.”
One Direction, made up of Malik, Tomlinson, Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, went on an indefinite break in 2016, though Malik had left the group a year earlier.
Payne died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Toxicology tests later revealed he had several drugs in his system. The surviving bandmates — Malik, Tomlinson, Horan and Styles — reunited for his funeral in the UK on November 20.
Before his death, all five members had reportedly been in talks for one last reunion show.
Malik has previously spoken about his struggles in the band, even addressing them in his music. Despite this, the documentary is expected to offer fans a more personal reflection on the group’s rise to fame.
One Direction was formed in 2010 on The X Factor after judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh decided to bring the five young singers together. Since then, each member has pursued a solo career, with Styles enjoying the most commercial success, including winning a Grammy in 2023 for Harry’s House.
