Prince William and Princess Kate joined family and friends last weekend at a grand birthday celebration for James Matthews, husband to Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton.
The party, held at the couple’s home in Berkshire, England, was organized to mark Matthews’ 50th birthday. Reports indicate the festivities started in the afternoon and went on until the early hours of the next day.
The event carried a “racy” theme, seen as a playful nod to Matthews’ past career as a professional racing driver. He is also heir to the Scottish feudal title of Laird of Glen Affric and currently runs Eden Rock Capital Management, an investment advisory firm he co-founded.
Among the high-profile guests were former racing driver Christian Horner and his wife, Geri Halliwell, of Spice Girls fame, as well as Matthews’ brother Spencer and his wife, Vogue Williams.
However, the glamorous gathering did not sit well with some neighbors. The celebration began with a Spitfire fighter aircraft display over the estate, which left locals worried about the noise disturbing pets. Later, loud music reportedly continued until around 1:30 a.m.
One neighbor told the Daily Mail: “It’s common courtesy and respect. There are a lot of very nice people who have a lot of money, but this is about entitlement. I’m a night owl and I do like parties, but I’m also aware of others.”
Another added that the couple could have chosen a “silent disco” to avoid disturbing the neighborhood.
Pippa, 42, and James married in 2017 and now have three children together.
