Diddy pleads for leniency ahead of sentencing in criminal case

Sean “Diddy” Combs is making a last-minute appeal for a lighter sentence as he awaits his day in court. The hip-hop mogul’s legal team has filed a sentencing package arguing he has already paid a heavy price following his conviction on federal charges earlier this year.

Diddy, represented by high-profile attorneys Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, is pushing back against prosecutors who want him locked up for between 51 and 63 months. Instead, his lawyers are asking the judge to consider a 14-month sentence that includes supervised release with drug treatment and therapy.

In court filings, Diddy points out that the sentencing guidelines for his conviction on two counts of violating the Mann Act carry no more than 6 to 12 months for each count. The charges stem from prosecutors proving he transported male sex workers across state lines for what were described as “freak offs” involving his ex-girlfriends and escorts in hotel rooms — often recorded on camera.

Since his arrest in September 2024, Diddy has been held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center under what he describes as “horrible conditions.” He notes that by the time of his October 3 sentencing, he will have already served 13 months, which should count toward his punishment.

The 54-year-old music mogul also highlighted his personal progress behind bars, claiming he has been sober for the first time in 25 years and even inspired other inmates through rehabilitation programs. He added that his jail record has been incident-free and stressed that he has no prior criminal history.

Diddy told the court that the fallout from his arrest has devastated his reputation, crippled his businesses, and strained his family life. He emphasized that he has seven children and an elderly mother who depend on him for care and support.

Despite his request for leniency, the hip-hop icon still faces the possibility of a much harsher sentence. While he avoided convictions on more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, the federal counts he was found guilty of still carry the potential for up to 20 years in prison.

The final decision now rests with the judge, who will sentence Diddy on October 3 in New York City.
