Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama ended their summer season in style with a weekend trip on filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s $250 million superyacht in Italy.
Michelle, 61, was seen arriving first on Friday near the coast of Portofino. She was warmly welcomed by Spielberg, 78, with a big hug. Dressed in denim from head to toe, she accessorized with a black backpack, sunglasses, and platform sandals.
Barack, 64, joined later in the day, escorted by his security detail. The former president wore a brown shirt, white pants, and a white hat.
The Obamas spent the weekend relaxing on board and were spotted on Sunday having a casual conversation with Spielberg while enjoying the sunshine.
Their joint outing comes after the couple addressed split rumors during an episode of Michelle’s podcast “IMO” in July, where Barack appeared as a surprise guest. Michelle’s brother Craig Robinson teased them by joking, “Wait, you guys like each other?” Barack responded with humor, saying, “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while.”
Michelle clarified on the show that she has never thought about leaving her husband despite the challenges of marriage. “We’ve had some really hard times and we’ve had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I’ve become a better person because of the man I’m married to,” she said.
The couple, who tied the knot in 1992, have two daughters: Malia, 27, and Sasha, 24.
The Obamas have faced speculation about their marriage before, particularly earlier this year when Barack appeared alone at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s second inauguration. Michelle has repeatedly dismissed the rumors, explaining that she has chosen to step back from public events.
