Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough says he cannot wait to become a father as he prepares to welcome his first child with his wife, Hayley Erbert Hough.
Speaking on the Jennifer Hudson Show, the 40-year-old dancer and choreographer admitted that the thought of fatherhood sometimes takes him by surprise.
“Sometimes I forget, right? I’m doing things, and I just glance over and see her bump, and I’m like, ‘Whoa, I’m going to be a dad,’” Hough told Hudson. “And I cannot wait. I cannot wait.”
He recalled the emotional moment he felt the baby kick for the first time, describing it as life-changing. “It was that feeling that everybody talks about, where all of a sudden everything became vivid and different. I’m going to be something I’ve never been, and I just can’t wait,” he said.
The couple announced in July that they were expecting their first baby, sharing the news with a heartwarming Instagram video. In the clip, Hough and Erbert embraced as she revealed sonogram photos to the camera. “We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small ♥️,” they captioned the post.

Since then, the couple has shared more moments of the pregnancy journey with their fans. In one Instagram post, Erbert wore a red ruffled dress while showing off her baby bump as she kissed her husband. Hough commented on the post: “That’s my warrior woman ❤️❤️ my heart is overflowing with love for you and our future little one.”
Hough and Erbert, 30, tied the knot in 2023. The couple is now looking forward to beginning their journey as first-time parents.
