Selena Gomez caught her co-star Martin Short texting actress Meryl Streep during the Emmy Awards on Sunday night.
In a video circulating on X, Gomez — who attended the ceremony with her fiancé Benny Blanco — was seen glancing at Short, who sat a few seats away and appeared to be on his phone while talking with Steve Martin. She then turned to Blanco and, with a playful pout and smile, seemed to mouth the words, “He’s texting Meryl.”
Streep, who stars with Gomez, Short, and Martin in the comedy-drama Only Murders in the Building, did not attend the event. In the series, Streep plays Short’s love interest, and the pair even shared an on-screen kiss during filming in May.
Off-screen, the two veteran actors have sparked romance rumors since January 2024, when they were spotted sitting closely together at the Golden Globes. While both have denied being a couple, they have continued to fuel speculation by holding hands at the Season 4 premiere of their show and going on several dinner outings in Los Angeles.
A source previously told Page Six that Streep and Short have been quietly dating for over a year. “Meryl couldn’t help but fall for Martin. He is a gentleman, he keeps her laughing, and she loves being around him,” the insider said.
Streep, 76, separated from her longtime husband Don Gummer in 2018, while Short, 75, lost his wife Nancy Dolman in 2010 after 30 years of marriage.
Meanwhile, Gomez, 33, and music producer Benny Blanco are preparing for their wedding this month, with reports suggesting the ceremony will take place in Montecito or Santa Barbara, California.
