Manchester City were forced to act quickly on derby day after a worker was spotted serving drinks while wearing a Manchester United shirt at the Etihad Stadium.
The incident came to light after a fan posted a photo on social media showing the staff member in the United shirt behind the bar. The supporter, identified as Stuart, wrote on X: “Absolute joke @ManCity – letting one of the bar staff in block 315 wear a United shirt on Derby Day.”
The club responded to the post, thanking the fan for raising the issue and confirming that the individual had been removed from their station. City wrote: “Thank you for making us aware of this. We can confirm that this individual has now been removed from their position.”
While the off-pitch drama caused a stir, Manchester City dominated on the field. Pep Guardiola’s side secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United. Erling Haaland netted twice, while Jeremy Doku provided two assists to seal an emphatic win for the Cityzens.
City will return to action on Thursday when they host Italian champions Napoli in their Champions League opener.
