Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique will undergo surgery after he was involved in a cycling accident on Friday.
The Spaniard, who led PSG to their first-ever Champions League title last season as part of a historic treble, suffered a fractured collarbone in the crash. Emergency services treated him at the scene before he was taken to hospital, the club confirmed.
Luis Enrique has enjoyed huge success since taking charge of PSG in July 2023. He won the league and cup double in his first season, before guiding the French champions to a treble in 2024-25. His side beat Inter Milan 5-0 in May to lift their long-awaited Champions League trophy, then went on to claim the UEFA Super Cup in August against Tottenham Hotspur.
PSG, who also reached the FIFA Club World Cup final in July, have made a perfect start to the new Ligue 1 season, winning their first three games against Nantes, Angers, and Toulouse before the international break.
In a statement on social media, PSG said: “Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone. The club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course.”
PSG are set to play Lens at home on September 14, before beginning the defence of their Champions League crown against Italian side Atalanta on September 17. It is not yet clear if Luis Enrique will be back on the sidelines in time for those matches.
