KeNHA Closes Part of Nakuru-Eldoret Road After Sinkhole Appears

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has closed a section of the Nakuru-Eldoret Road at Eveready Roundabout after a sinkhole formed on the road.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, KeNHA said the closure affects the Nakuru-bound carriageway of the busy highway.

“This evening, the Kenya National Highways Authority closed the Nakuru-bound carriageway of the Nakuru-Eldoret (A8) Road at Eveready Roundabout following the formation of a sinkhole on the road,” the authority announced.

KeNHA assured the public that engineers were working round the clock to restore normal traffic flow. Motorists have been advised to drive carefully and follow instructions from traffic police and marshals stationed at the site.

The incident comes just days after KeNHA also shut down a section of the Marigat–Loruk (B17) Road due to flooding from the rising waters of Lake Baringo. The closure, announced on August 21, 2025, affected the stretch between Km 29+800 and Km 40+000.

To ease movement in Baringo, KeNHA said it had created a diversion at Km 29+200 on the Marigat–Loruk Road, which connects with the Loruk–Chemalingot route.

KeNHA urged road users to prioritize safety and avoid attempting to use affected sections until they are declared safe.
