IRA Warns Public Against Transacting With Deregistered Firm

The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has cautioned the public against doing business with a company known as Underwriting Africa Specialty Limited.

IRA Chief Executive Officer Godfrey Kiptum, in a notice issued on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, said the Authority had taken note of a feature published in the Daily Nation on August 6, 2025. The article highlighted the company’s plans to expand in the coming years, citing what it described as its success in the last decade.

Kiptum clarified that the company, registered as Underwriting Africa Insurance Brokers Limited, had been deregistered from conducting insurance business as a broker. The deregistration was published in Kenya Gazette Notice No. 13566 of December 10, 2021.

“Members of the public are advised to refrain from engaging with ‘Underwriting Africa Specialty Limited’ for any insurance-related services,” Kiptum said.

He further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to the company.

IRA recently cancelled the licences of 20 Insurance Brokers.

In a statement, the regulator says the affected insurance brokers ceased transacting insurance business effective from end of last month, and have been de-registered following their gazettement on of July 18, 2025.
