Belgian football star Kevin De Bruyne is strongly linked with a move to Italian club Napoli after reportedly buying a house in the city.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that he met with De Bruyne and his family, describing the meeting as heartwarming.
“I think De Bruyne can really join us now. I’ve been told he has already bought a beautiful house here in Napoli,” De Laurentiis told the media.
“I spoke to Kevin, his wife, and his child this morning. It was wonderful to see them — they are a lovely family.”
While expressing his optimism about the potential transfer, De Laurentiis urged caution. “Is it a done deal? Until contracts are signed, we must remain careful. We are serious people at Napoli,” he added.
De Bruyne said goodbye to Manchester City fans earlier this month after 10 successful years at the club.
He made his final appearance in a City shirt on Sunday against Fulham in their last Premier League game of the season.
During his decade at City, the 33-year-old midfielder won six Premier League titles, one Champions League, and several other domestic trophies.
According to ESPN, De Bruyne has already chosen Napoli as his next destination and is expected to begin talks for a free transfer this summer.
Italian journalist Matteo Moretto reports that Napoli is ready to offer him a three-year contract.
For the first two years, De Bruyne would earn €6 million (about KSh 850 million) per year, and €5 million in the final year.
Former Belgium captain and ex-Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has criticized Manchester City for letting De Bruyne leave, saying the club should have extended his contract.
“He still has what it takes to play at the highest level,” Vermaelen said.
