Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has announced that he will apologise to fans following the club’s final Premier League match of the season this Sunday.
United will wrap up their 2024-25 campaign at Old Trafford when they face Aston Villa. This season has been one of the worst in the club’s history since the 1973-74 campaign.
The team also missed out on a Champions League spot after losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final earlier this week.
Speaking ahead of the match, Amorim confirmed that he will address the fans after the game, a tradition followed by the club’s manager each season. He said the speech will be short and sincere.
“It will be an apology, I think that’s clear,” Amorim told reporters. “I don’t have time for a full explanation, but I will be honest with the fans and speak from my heart. If there was ever a season where we needed to do this, it’s this one.”
Amorim is expected to lead a squad overhaul during the upcoming transfer window. Manchester United are reportedly close to signing Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and are targeting more players to strengthen the team for the next season.
