Mary Cosby Opens Up About Son Robert Jr.’S Struggle With Addiction

Mary Cosby faced one of the most challenging moments of her life as she opened up about her son Robert Jr.’s battle with substance abuse on the Dec. 11 episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

After confronting the 21-year-old about his drug use in a previous episode, she confided in her close friend and co-star Angie Katsanevas, revealing the heartbreaking extent of his struggles.

“He just told me, ‘Mom, I did drugs,’” Mary shared tearfully. “He was like, ‘Yeah, I tried this, I tried that.’”

The list of substances included heroin, Xanax, and acid, with Robert Jr. admitting, “It almost became an addiction.”

Mary corrected him, saying, “Not almost,” and he finally acknowledged, “Yeah, it’s addiction, Mom.”

The most devastating revelation came when Robert Jr. confessed he had once felt life wasn’t worth living.

“He said, ‘Mom, at one point, I didn’t want to live. You were the reason I stayed alive,’” Mary recalled. “‘I felt like a stain.’”

In a tearful confessional, Mary questioned how things had gone so wrong.

“What did I miss? Was I not paying enough attention at some point that he went that far to the point where he didn’t want to live?” she wondered.

“Where did I not secure him so he knows his worth? And he knows how much he means to me? Just, what happened? If I don’t blame myself, whose fault is it?”

Though Angie tried to reassure Mary, emphasizing that addiction is a disease and not her fault, Mary couldn’t shake her feelings of responsibility.

“You did all the right things, Mary,” Angie said. “That could happen to anyone.”

Still, Mary remained resolute in her commitment to support her son. “It’s hard, it’s really hard,” she admitted. “As a parent, you feel like you failed.

But if he comes to me and says he wants help, it’s my responsibility to make sure he gets it. And whatever I have to do, I’m gonna do it.”
