Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, has clarified that she did not weigh in on her son-in-law Jay-Z’s legal troubles following allegations of rape.
The rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, was accused in a civil lawsuit filed on December 8 of raping a 13-year-old girl with Sean “Diddy” Combs at an after-party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City.
After the filing, fans noticed Knowles’ Instagram account had liked a post from ABC 7 Chicago covering the lawsuit.
However, as of December 9, the like was removed. Knowles took to Instagram on December 9 to announce that her account had been hacked.
“I was Hacked!” she wrote. “As you all know I do not play about my family.
if you see something uncharacteristic of me, just know that it is not me!”
This is not the first time Knowles has made headlines for her social media activity.
Earlier this year, she apologized after liking a post criticizing Janet Jackson’s concert ticket prices, explaining that she had liked it in haste without fully reading the content.
As for Jay-Z, he has vehemently denied the allegations made by an anonymous “Jane Doe.”
The lawsuit, initially filed in October without naming Jay-Z, now includes his name.
Doe’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, claims Carter and Combs raped his client at the 2000 VMAs after-party.
Jay-Z responded to the claims, urging Buzbee to file a criminal complaint, stating that anyone guilty of such a crime should be locked away.
He also alleged that Buzbee had sought payment from his attorney to settle the matter.
Buzbee confirmed that his firm did send a demand letter on behalf of the alleged victim, but clarified that they never sought monetary compensation, only a confidential mediation.
The lawsuit is part of a wider series of legal battles facing Combs, who is also facing federal charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
Both Combs and Jay-Z have denied the accusations, with Combs maintaining his innocence in both the civil cases and his ongoing federal case.
