Prince Harry is setting the record straight about his relationship with Meghan Markle, firmly dismissing the ongoing rumors of a potential divorce.
At the New York Times’ 2024 DealBook Summit on Dec. 4, the Duke of Sussex responded to speculation about their marriage, which has intensified due to the couple attending recent public events separately.
“We’ve apparently bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well,” Harry said, according to People.
He added, “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it.”
Harry, who shares two young children—Archie (5) and Lilibet (3)—with Meghan, expressed his sympathy for those who perpetuate these rumors.
“The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls,” he said.
“Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”
While Harry is no stranger to media scrutiny, he also shared his concerns about the safety risks that come with the British tabloid press’ constant coverage.
He previously voiced his reluctance to return to the UK with Meghan due to the potential dangers they face from the public.
“It’s still dangerous,” he told ITV in July.
“And all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read. Whether it’s a knife or acid… and these are things that are of genuine concern for me.”
This concern remains a significant factor in their decision to stay away from Britain for the time being.
