The Tree Hill Ravens are preparing to soar again as plans for a One Tree Hill sequel series take shape.
Sophia Bush, who famously portrayed Brooke Davis in the original series, recently shared updates on the highly anticipated project she’s developing alongside former co-stars Hilarie Burton and Danneel Ackles.
Speaking to Access Hollywood on December 4, Sophia acknowledged the challenges they’ve faced since news of the sequel leaked prematurely.
“It’s unfortunate when development news leaks early—that was a bit of a bummer for us because we wanted to get it across the finish line and then have a party,” she explained.
Despite the setback, the 42-year-old actress is optimistic about the progress they’ve made.
“The process is really incredible. The fans have kept that show alive, and they have asked for it for so long. The studio came to us about it,” Sophia revealed.
The sequel, reportedly set 20 years after the original finale, will see Sophia, Hilarie, and Danneel serving as executive producers.
And while the timing now feels perfect, Sophia admitted she wasn’t always open to the idea.
“I think 10 years ago I would have said, ‘Not on your life,’” she confessed.
“But now I realize the opportunity to have not only a comfort show but a home base matters to people. So, we’re beginning to figure out how we might tell these stories and reunite our whole ragtag bunch. It feels really, really amazing, and if it happens, I think you’ll be very pleased.”
One Tree Hill, which aired from 2003 to 2012, featured an ensemble cast that included Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, Stephen Colletti, and Paul Johansson.
While it’s unclear which cast members will return for the sequel, some familiar faces are already expressing interest.
Jana Kramer, who joined the show as Alex Dupre in its later seasons, revealed she’s been in touch with her former co-stars about reprising her role.
“I talked to Sophia about it,” she told E! News. “They’re gonna get their footing of the show, but I think they’re open to bringing back characters.”
As for Chad Michael Murray, who played Lucas Scott, he’s rooting for the sequel—even if his character isn’t included.
“I want that show to happen,” he told E! News in November. While he’s unsure of Lucas’ involvement, Chad expressed his gratitude for the impact One Tree Hill has had.
“This experience that I’ve gotten the privilege of having over the last 24 years is incredible,” he shared.
“For everyone who grew up on this show, and it affected them, changed their heart just a little, or set the tone for their youth, I hope it happens.”
