NFL player Kobie Turner surprised both judges and viewers with his impressive singing talent on The Masked Singer during the Dec. 4 episode.
The Los Angeles Rams defensive end, disguised as the character “Goo,” delivered a powerful cover of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls during the quarter-finals, leading to his emotional elimination.
Before his performance, Kobie shared some personal insights into his journey, revealing his secret passion for music.
“It’s been really meaningful to hear the panel’s comment because—spoiler alert—I don’t do this for a living,” he teased.
“I’ve always been a Goo with two dreams: Singing and what you might know me for in real life.
And everyone said I couldn’t do both, but I never wavered.” His appearance on the show allowed him to explore his love for singing and brought him great joy, even if it was just a “test drive” for his musical ambitions.
Following his heartfelt performance, judges Jenny McCarthy and Robin Thicke praised Kobie’s vocal abilities, shocked by the fact that he wasn’t a professional singer. A surprise message from his fiancée also moved Kobie to tears.
“This person has meant the world to me,” he said, visibly emotional. “I can’t imagine doing life without her.”
The judges made their guesses as to who was behind the mask, with Rita Ora speculating John Cena, Ken Jeong guessing Shaquille O’Neal, and Robin Thicke suggesting Aaron Donald. Jenny McCarthy was the only one to guess correctly—Kobie Turner.
After being unmasked, Kobie shared his thoughts: “My biggest goal is to be able to show that we’re so much more than just athletes. It’s brought so much healing to my life to be able to sing out here on this stage.”
His appearance on The Masked Singer allowed him to show the world another side of his multifaceted personality.
