Justin Baldoni Reflects On The Impact Of It Ends With Us And Talks Sequel Speculation

While the possibility of a sequel to It Ends With Us excites fans, director and star Justin Baldoni is taking a moment to appreciate the journey so far.

Following the success of the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, Justin, alongside co-stars Blake Lively and Brandon Sklenar, has received widespread praise.

Yet, his focus remains on the present rather than the prospect of continuing Lily Bloom’s story.

“I’ve been hearing the sequel conversations,” the Jane the Virgin alum shared.

“People ask me all the time about sequels. But we’re just trying to be in the moment. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the lives this has impacted and changed.”

Justin emphasized the significance of finally bringing the story to audiences, a process that took years to materialize.

“We’re not even thinking about a sequel right now. We’re just enjoying the fact that this movie, which has taken years and years to come to fruition, is now going to be seen by so many people on Netflix,” he explained.

The film is set to debut on the streaming platform on December 9 after a successful theatrical run.

The movie explores Lily Bloom’s journey through an abusive relationship, and Justin hopes its message will resonate with a wider audience.

“We wanted to make sure this movie became a female event film where women could go to the theater and experience this together,” he noted.

“And then also reach as many homes as possible. We hope it touches people and gives those who need it strength.”

The impact has been palpable, with Justin receiving an outpouring of messages from viewers.

“I always said that if there’s one person who sees this movie and finds the strength to leave an abusive situation, then it was worth it,” he shared.

“And now, thousands and thousands of messages later, I’m so grateful.”

However, the project was not without its challenges.

From rumors of a feud with Blake Lively—something Justin has dismissed with compliments about her creativity and work ethic—to the personal toll of playing the antagonist Ryle, the journey was complex.

“It’s a very strange place to be, let alone directing while trying to play a character who does the things Ryle does in the movie,” Justin revealed.

“There were moments during filming where I’d have to remove myself and shake it out.”

The role left a deep impression, with Justin admitting it took months to shed the character entirely.

“It lived in my body, but for the most part, he’s out,” he said.

Despite these challenges, Justin expressed gratitude for the film’s impact. “We make movies for impact,” he said.

“The fact that this had real impact—I don’t really have words. I’m just really so grateful.”
