Caitlin McHugh Stamos is opening up about a pivotal life decision that reshaped her career and personal priorities.
After marrying actor John Stamos in 2018 and welcoming their son, Billy, later that year, the actress decided to step away from the spotlight.
While family was a major influence, Caitlin recently revealed that health concerns also played a significant role in her decision.
“I got a health issue, and they said, ‘You got to stop traveling,’” Caitlin shared in an exclusive interview with E! News.
“My memory was affected, which is really weird. So it’s very strange things.”
Though she didn’t disclose the specific diagnosis, Caitlin explained that the condition impacted her thyroid and hormones.
Despite the challenges, stepping back allowed her to focus on being a mom to Billy, now six years old—a choice she cherishes deeply.
“Becoming a mom solidified those decisions,” Caitlin said. “It wasn’t like, ‘Well maybe I’ll get better and get back into things.’
It was, ‘No, I want to get better, and everything I would put into a career, I’m throwing myself into other things.’”
At 38, Caitlin has found fulfillment beyond acting, diving into other creative ventures.
She launched a bracelet company, Civic Soul, and recently started a nonprofit organization.
However, Caitlin is making a brief return to acting with the Apple TV film The Invisible Raptor, set for release on December 6.
Although she initially planned to decline the role, the project’s humor and originality won her over.
“I ended up falling in love with the script,” Caitlin said.
“I couldn’t stop laughing because, yes, it is horror and there’s suspense, but it is so funny.”
She even found herself disrupting her husband while preparing for the role.
“I kept waking up my husband actually laughing, because I really thought it was great,” Caitlin added.
“Even though I had every intention of saying no, I said yes, and I’m so glad I did. This was a wonderful experience.”
Despite her enthusiasm for the project, Caitlin admitted that being away from her son during filming was tough.
“What actually was the really, really hardest part of it was being away from my son so much,” she reflected.
Ultimately, Caitlin remains devoted to her role as Billy’s mom, proving that family and health are at the heart of her journey.
