Coldplay Donates £14,000 To Help Young Musicians Record In Professional Studio

Coldplay has donated £14,000 to support young musicians in Frome, Somerset, giving them a chance to record in a professional studio.

This gesture follows the band’s exciting visit earlier this year, when they rehearsed their Glastonbury Festival headline set at the local music venue, the Cheese and Grain.

The £10,000 donation was given to Young People Frome, a charity that runs a free music development program for 12 to 18-year-olds.

In addition, Coldplay raised another £4,000 by visiting the local record store, Raves from the Grave, where they signed CDs and vinyl records that were raffled off.

Steve Macarthur, director of the Cheese and Grain, shared his excitement about Coldplay’s involvement, noting their genuine interest in the venue’s community-driven approach.

“They were really excited about what we do—making music for the community, not for profit,” he said.

The donation will fund monthly music sessions starting in January 2025 at the Bert Jansch Studio, giving young people the opportunity to explore music recording in a professional setting.

Mr. Macarthur emphasized that participants don’t need to be highly skilled musicians, just curious and eager to learn. Over time, they may even leave with a recording of their own.

The initiative will eventually expand to include local schools and young people who are not in education, employment, or training, giving them all the chance to experience the professional music environment.
