Could Desperate Housewives be making a comeback? According to series creator Marc Cherry, the possibility is not entirely off the table—but it might not be the revival fans are hoping for.
Cherry, who helmed the iconic dramedy that aired on ABC from 2004 to 2012, recently revealed that he has ideas for revisiting Wisteria Lane.
However, instead of bringing back original stars Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan, Cherry envisions an entirely new story set in a different time.
“I have a couple of ideas to do it,” Cherry told People in a Nov. 27 interview.
“But I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. The character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane itself.”
Describing the fictional neighborhood as “the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had,” Cherry expressed interest in reimagining life on the iconic street in a retro setting.
“There’s times when I go, ‘You know what? I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like, 1966.’”
While Cherry’s vision leans toward reinvention, some original cast members are eager to reprise their roles.
Eva Longoria, who played the glamorous Gabrielle Solis, has been vocal about her enthusiasm for a reboot.
“I would be the first to sign up,” Longoria told Entertainment Tonight in June. “I miss Wisteria Lane. I miss the girls. I miss Gabby Solis.
I miss being her.” She added that she’s made her interest clear to Cherry, joking, “I’ve told him a hundred times.”
In contrast, Teri Hatcher, who portrayed Susan Mayer, feels less optimistic. Speaking to E! News in early 2023, Hatcher said, “I don’t think there’ll be a reboot.
I think it’s been a long time. We had amazing fans, and I know everyone on that show is really grateful for the journey.”
While fans may be divided between a fresh take and a nostalgic revival, Cherry’s musings keep the legacy of Desperate Housewives alive.
Whether set in the 1960s or featuring new residents, a return to Wisteria Lane would undoubtedly bring intrigue, drama, and plenty of secrets to uncover.
