Comedian YY, recently in the spotlight following his breakup with partner Marya Okoth, is now grieving the loss of his beloved grandmother. On September 18, YY took to Instagram to share the heart-wrenching news of her passing.
In his emotional post, YY announced that his grandmother, affectionately known as Dani (Mama Zilpa Ogola), had succumbed to a long and painful battle. He expressed deep gratitude for her influence on his education and personal growth.
“My Grandma has rested… Rest well Dani (Mama Zilpa Ogola). You have fought a very painful battle. Thank you for your influence on my education,” he wrote.
YY also shared details about the funeral arrangements, revealing that Dani would be laid to rest on September 27, 2024, in Kosele village. He concluded his tribute with a traditional Luo farewell message, “Nind Gi Kwe Min Dolly.”
The news of Dani’s passing has elicited an outpouring of sympathy from YY’s fans, friends, and fellow entertainers. Many have taken to social media to offer their condolences and acknowledge the significant role Mama Zilpa played in YY’s life.
As the comedian’s supporters rally around him, it’s a moment to reflect on his personal journey. In 2023, YY’s mother shared poignant details about his early life during a conversation with her ex-daughter-in-law, Marya Okoth. Her account revealed that YY’s childhood was marked by numerous challenges, including severe burns.
Despite these hardships, YY discovered his passion for performance during his primary school years. He began participating in church skits as part of the Pathfinders club at their Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church. This early exposure to acting laid the foundation for his successful career as a comedian.
The passing of YY’s grandmother comes at a time of personal upheaval, but it also highlights the resilience and support systems that have shaped his journey.
