Kasarani And Nyayo Stadium Renovations To Be Completed By November 2024

The renovation of Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums is set to be finished by the end of 2024, according to recent updates from President William Ruto.

The President shared this information while hosting Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe at State House Nairobi.

Ruto also announced that the new Talanta Sports City Stadium, a key project for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, is expected to be completed by December 2025.

“Kenya will be ready to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027. The renovations of Kasarani and Nyayo, as well as the construction of the Talanta Sports City Stadium, are progressing well,” Ruto stated.

CAF President Motsepe, who visited Nairobi on Sunday, was pleased with the progress. He was joined by Kenya’s Minister of Sports, Kipchumba Murkomen, and Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa.

Minister Murkomen revealed that some of the renovated stadia will be handed over to CAF by the end of November, in time for the CHAN games scheduled from February 1 to February 28, 2025.

He assured that all efforts are being made to ensure Kenya is ready for the games. ”

We will be ready as Kenya and East Africa. We will support CAF to make these tournaments a success,” Murkomen said.

Motsepe, who is also in Kenya for a CAF Executive Committee meeting, expressed confidence in the success of the upcoming tournaments.

He praised President Ruto’s commitment to football and emphasized that Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, will deliver outstanding events.

“I’m deeply grateful and very proud of the exceptional support President Ruto is providing. With our collective efforts, we will make African football among the best in the world,” Motsepe remarked.

Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa and other officials were present during the tour. CAF had previously inspected the stadia in June and August.

Uganda and Tanzania also have two approved stadiums each: Uganda’s Mandela National Stadium and St Mary’s Stadium, and Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and Azam Sports Complex.
