Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, And Chappell Roan Shine At The 2024 MTV Vmas: A Night Of Pop Royalty And Unforgettable Moments

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards were a dazzling spectacle, with pop royalty Katy Perry and Chappell Roan delivering electrifying performances and proving why they belong in the spotlight. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift cemented her place in music history as she became the most-awarded artist in the event’s history.

Katy Perry, always a fan favorite, was honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard award, often seen as MTV’s version of a lifetime achievement award. She lit up the stage with a medley of her greatest hits, including iconic anthems like “Roar,” “Dark Horse,” and “Firework.” Her vibrant performance was a reminder of her pop dominance over the years.

The night also belonged to rising star Chappell Roan, who just a year ago was performing to intimate crowds of 200 but has since skyrocketed to fame. Roan took home the best new artist award, and in her acceptance speech, she paid homage to the drag queens who inspired her journey. It was a heartfelt moment from a star whose ascent is only just beginning.

And then, there was Taylor Swift, the undisputed queen of the night. Swift walked away with seven trophies, including the coveted artist of the year and video of the year awards. With this year’s wins, Swift has accumulated 30 MTV awards, surpassing Beyoncé, who previously held the record with 27 Moonman trophies. Swift’s wins were monumental, but her speech was even more impactful. She urged her fans to vote in the upcoming U.S. Presidential election, giving a nod to her political influence.

Swift also shared a sweet moment, giving a shoutout to her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, who was by her side while she directed her winning video for “Fortnight.” She fondly recalled how his cheers from across the studio kept her energized, describing him as a source of “happiness, fun, and magic.”

This marked the third consecutive year that Swift won the video of the year award, with previous wins for “Anti-Hero” in 2023 and “All Too Well (10 minute version)” in 2022.

The show itself was a star-studded affair held at the UBS Arena in New York City, commemorating 40 years of the MTV Video Music Awards. Cyndi Lauper, a pop icon herself and winner of the first-ever best female video award for “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” returned to introduce Sabrina Carpenter, whose song “Espresso” won song of the year.

Fans were treated to performances from some of music’s biggest names, including rock legend Lenny Kravitz, pop sensation Shawn Mendes, K-pop star Lisa, and the legendary Eminem. With high-energy moments and unforgettable performances, this year’s VMAs proved once again why it remains one of the most anticipated nights in entertainment.
