Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed to a new three-year contract with the club, securing his future at the Emirates Stadium until 2027. The Spaniard, who was previously set to be out of contract at the end of this season, will now stay for an additional three years.
Arteta initially took the reins at Arsenal in December 2019, replacing Unai Emery. At the time, he was working as a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, gaining valuable experience under one of the game’s top managers. Since taking charge, Arteta has overseen a period of rebuilding at Arsenal, with some notable successes. One of his early achievements came in the 2019-2020 season when he led Arsenal to victory in the FA Cup, defeating Chelsea 2-1 in the final. This win marked his first major trophy as a manager and gave fans hope for a new era under his leadership.
Despite this success, the Premier League title has eluded the Gunners during Arteta’s tenure. In the past two seasons, Arsenal finished second to Manchester City, as the 42-year-old strives to bring the club its first top-flight title since the famous “Invincibles” season of 2003-04.
The announcement of Arteta’s contract extension is expected before Arsenal’s highly anticipated north London derby against Tottenham this Sunday. His continued presence will provide stability as the team aims to challenge for major honors. So far this season, Arsenal have made a solid start, sitting fourth in the Premier League after winning their opening two games against Wolves and Aston Villa, followed by a draw against Brighton.
As a former midfielder for Arsenal, Arteta made 150 appearances for the club and also captained the team, making his ongoing commitment to the Gunners even more meaningful.
