Dave Grohl, the iconic frontman of Foo Fighters, has shared a deeply personal update that has fans buzzing. On September 10, the rock legend revealed that he recently welcomed a daughter outside of his marriage to Jordyn Blum, with whom he shares three children: Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10.
In an emotional Instagram post, Grohl expressed his commitment to his family as they navigate this new chapter. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her,” he wrote. “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
Grohl ended his message by asking for consideration towards all children involved, as they “move forward together.” However, he did not reveal any additional details about the identity of his newborn’s mother.
Known for keeping his private life out of the spotlight, this update marks a rare move from Grohl, who has typically shared very little about his family. Yet, over the years, the former Nirvana drummer has occasionally given fans a glimpse into his life with Jordyn, a former model, and their children.
In a candid 2007 interview with The Guardian, Grohl reflected on how his wife has kept him grounded amid the chaotic world of rock stardom. “For the past 20 years when I’ve been touring, I’ve always craved stability,” he said. “I’ve never gotten off on chaos. Throughout the whole Nirvana experience, I retreated to Virginia whenever I felt sucked into the tornado of insanity. Same thing with the Foo Fighters.”
Grohl further opened up about the importance of family in a 2009 interview with TIME, where he noted how fatherhood changed his perspective on life. “When you have kids, you see life through different eyes,” he shared. “You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.”
Family even plays a role in Grohl’s style, as his children have a say in his signature long hair. “My kids are like, ‘Dad, don’t. You’re too ugly. Do not cut your f–king hair,'” Grohl humorously told Vulture in 2021.
While he often keeps personal stories close to his chest, Grohl revealed that his daughters are the ones he shares his most intimate experiences with. “If my daughters ask me questions about Nirvana, I will answer every one of those questions,” he said.
