Renowned radio presenter Mercy Mawia has passed away, her family has confirmed.
The former Athiani Presenter died this morning while receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Mbaitu FM, where Mercy worked as the Head of Radio, confirmed the sad news in a statement:
“It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Drive Show presenter, Ms. Mercy Mawia. Mercy, also known as Kamuwetangi, passed away this morning while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital after being admitted for a surgical procedure. Her husband, Mr. Mwangi, who was at her bedside, confirmed her death.”
Bonnie Musambi, a fellow radio personality, mourned her death, calling her one of the greatest female radio presenters in Kamba history.
“Mercy was not just a superstar and professional, but also a servant of God who flourished in the world of Gospel Music. She loved serving God and His people. The media fraternity has lost an enormous talent,” he said.
